Play with a controller, a faster start, and a new home on Reddit

A smaller update, but one I’ve wanted for a while: you can now play The Cradle with a controller.

🎮 Controller support

Plug in an Xbox, PlayStation or most other controllers, and the whole game works with it: walking, looking, hiding, the inventory, notes, terminals, keypads, menus and settings. The on-screen prompts switch to your controller’s buttons automatically, and back to the keyboard the moment you touch it.

There’s a new Controller tab in Settings:

  • Xbox, PlayStation or Steam Deck button style;
  • look sensitivity and invert Y;
  • dead zone;
  • sprint mode (hold or toggle);
  • vibration;
  • remap any button, with a reset to defaults.

Vibration kicks in on scares, catches and when a chase begins. Wear headphones, hold the controller, turn the lights off. 🕯

If you try it on a Steam Deck in desktop mode, I’d love to hear how it plays. Tell me in the comments or on Discord.

⚡ Faster loading

All the voice lines now load as one file per language instead of hundreds of small ones, so the game starts faster, especially on phones and slow connections. If you play with voices off, they’re not downloaded at all.

💬 The Cradle is on Reddit

There’s now an official community: r/TheCradleHorror. Share theories, clips and achievement hunts, report bugs, and find out about new episodes first. You’ll see it in three places in the game:

  • a Reddit icon next to the Discord one on the title screen;
  • a “Share your theories” line when you reach an ending;
  • in the end credits.

🔧 Fixed

  • The arrow keys now move through the menus and adjust sliders again.

Thanks for playing! 🕯
